Many hospitals are using a Suboxone detox method instead of drugs like Methadone. Suboxone is a pain medication that is use to relieve extreme pain. It is also used in the treatment of addiction to opiates. Two drugs make up Suboxone, Buprenorphine and Naloxone. The Naloxone is what causes addicts to become sober by causing them to become sick if they use an opiate.

The effects of the Suboxone last for around 24 hours. Suboxone is used like Methadone to help heroin addiction and for those who abuse Oxycontin and certain pain pill meds. It has greater effect and doesn’t need a long period of time. A person can  also perform a suboxone detox program as an outpatient under a doctor’s supervision. A few years ago, the only way a person could get clean was to stay at the hospital followed up by a couple months in drug rehab. The Naloxone in the drug causes a serious reaction if coupled with an opiate like heroin. This helps the abusers ease themselves off the abused drug. This detoxification program will suppress the withdrawal symptoms one feel when the abused drug is absent. It also will block the feelings of ecstasy that are attributed with using opiates plus it decreases cravings for more.

Suboxone is still a narcotic drug that has some addictive qualities. However, it is not nearly as addictive as other pain medications such as Oxycontin. It is important to make sure to take the correct dosages. A correct dosage can cause a person to enter varying states of dozing. Taking more however causes side effects like stomach pain and vomiting. Patients who have completed a Suboxone detox program feel that it has changed their life. It is wonderful to get your life back again and realize your potential.
